I'm curious to know what type of business arrangement people prefer.
I'm a freelance consultant and I always have been. I enjoy the flexibility of setting my own hours and rates. There have been times though, when I've thought that it would be easier if I had a partner or two.
What do you think works best for you?

Re: Freelance v. Partners
Mon, December 29, 2003 - 12:05 PMwhat type of consultancy do you run? Of course it would be easier to have a partner or two. It would spread the risk. I am into software development. In order to have a successful partnership, there must be a technical partner as well as a marketing/sales partner. -

Re: Freelance v. Partners
Tue, December 30, 2003 - 8:23 AMI provide on-call support for small-medium businesses and soho offices. Basically a "help desk" service.
The type of partnership I was talking about would be a sort of referral/support arrangement with other freelance consultants. We would still run our businesses independently, but we would refer clients to each other to fulfil requirements outside of our respective areas of specialisation. Also, I would imagine that being available for each other for second opinions, etc. would be very useful.
Of course, this would present some potential problems. We wouldn’t want to steal each other’s clients, would we? What if my “partner” covers for me while I’m on holiday, and I return to find that my best client no longer requires my services?
